MIDVALE--Eugene (Jimmy) Hardy Hawkins, 62, 110 Birch St., died in Palo Alto, California, June 17, 1975, of complications following heart surgery.

Born in Granite, Salt Lake County, March 12, 1912, to Reigo Stay and Miriam Hardy Hawkins. Married Vivian Strasberg, October 19, 1946; retired supervisor of lines and service, Midvale for Utah Power & Light Company; veteran WWII; supporter of Pony Leaque; active with LDS softball teams; member, executive board of 186 W. No. 57 for five years; WBBA Board of Directors.

Survivors wife, son, J. Craig Hawkins, Moab; daughter, Susan Lee, Salt Lake City; two grandchildren, brother, Curtis R. Hawkins, Salt Lake City and sisters, Mrs. Elbert (Miriam) DeSpain, Granite and Mrs. Cecil (Lucille) Furr, Salt Lake City.

Funeral 11 a.m. Saturday, East Midvale LDS Stake Center, 7570 S. 240 East. Friends 6-8 p.m. and Saturday at the center an hour before the service. Burial, Lake Hills Memorial Park.

GRANITE -- Riego (Roy) Stay Hawkins, 80, Granite, died Monday 4:35 p.m. in a Salt Lake rest home after a lingering heart illness.

Born Aug. 30, 1879. Salt Lake City, to Riego and Charlotte Stay Hawkins. Married Miriam Young Hardy Sept 27, 1905, Salt Lake Temple, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She died July 10, 1940. Married Bessie E. Bishop November 7, 1951, Salt Lake LDS Temple. Retired carpenter.

Survivors: widow, Salt Lake City; sons, daughters: Eugene H., Midvale; R. Curtis, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Elbert G. {Miriam) Despain, Granite: Mrs. Cecil H. (Lucille) Furr. Nephi; 16 grandchildren, sister, Mrs. George R. (Lily) Pyper, Salt Lake City.

It was the intention of Apostle Orson Pratt to have chartered a ship to sail about the twentieth of September, 1849, but he was unable to find one that was suitable, until he had succeeded in chartering the large, new and splendid ship Zetland, which had already brought over one company of Saints before. The fare, including the necessary provisions, was ?3 7 shillings 6 demies for adults; for children under fourteen years, ?2 10 shillings; infants under twelve months, free. The Zetland sailed from Liverpool, November 10th, 1849, with about two hundred and fifty Saints on board, under the presidency of Elder Samuel H.
