Lesley Berry researched this portrait and successfully corrected the identity of the sitter.
"he oil painting was originally in Hackney Museum and labelled as being of Conrad Loddiges. I was the one who researched this and consequently the museum have relabelled it. There is also a mezzotint dated 1817 in the Scottish National Gallery by Thomas Hodgetts of this portrait by John Renton.(Renton married one of Creighton's daughters) It is labelled as being of Rev James Creighton.You will be able to see this on the Scottish National Gallery website." |
