  Notes	[dunbar_tree.FTW] Eldest son of Hugh the Great, he was a founder of the Capetian House and lay abbot of the Abbeys of St. Martin of Tours and of St. Denis. His surname "Capet" may derive from his abbot's cape. He was elected king by the assembly of Senlis, but he secured the succession for his descendants by suspending the feudal right of election.
