    • Hans Jacob Luper was a sturdy pioneer of strong character and influence, always ready to aid a good cause, eger to serve the young country, loyal to the church, industrious, thrifty, and honorable in his dealings with his fellows. He belonged to the German Reformed Church. When he died on Sept. 10, 1803, he left a goodly estate, but better than that, he left a good name to be honored by his descendants.

      Fought in Revolutionary War (Trained Recruits)
      Tradition has it that Jacob Lupfer, Sr., having had military serv in Europe, took an active part in helping to train the raw recruits the beginning of the Revolutionary War. His own sons, Casper, Jo and Jacob Jr. were among those he helped to train. He, himself, to the Oath of Allegiance during the Revolutionary War before Dan Rothermel in Berks Co. on May 30, 1778.
